In this Latin American campaign public service announcement, soccer [football] star Lionel Messi, a United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) Ambassador, makes an urgent call to intensify child survival efforts to save the lives of thousands of boys and girls under the age of five who die of preventable causes.

According to UNICEF, "in spite of the impressive efforts made in the area of child survival, some 19,000 children under the age of five die every day due to causes such as pneumonia, diarrhoea and the measles. These deaths do not have to occur.
